Early Beginnings
Boxing has been a popular sport in Philadelphia since the early 1800s, with organized fights taking place in various venues around the city. However, it wasn’t until 1921 that promoter Harry Sharpe opened up the Blue Horizon, which became known as “the boxing cathedral” for its legendary fights and raucous atmosphere.

Today, the boxing scene in Philly continues to thrive with a new generation of talented boxers emerging from the city. Current professional boxers from Philadelphia include Tevin Farmer, Danny “Swift” Garcia, and Stephen Fulton.

Philadelphia is known for producing some of the greatest fighters in the history of boxing. One of the most well-known is Joe Frazier, who rose to fame in the 1960s and became the undisputed heavyweight champion in 1970 after defeating Muhammad Ali.
