The Eagles have traded veteran safety C.J. Gardner Johnson to the Houston Texans, in exchange for left guard Kenyon Green, sources told ESPN.

The deal also included both team swapping 2026 draft picks.

Here are the terms of the trade:

Eagles get: Kenyon Green, 5th-round pick in 2026

Texans get: C.J. Gardner-Johnson, 6th-round pick in 2026

The latest Super Bowl champion acknowledged the trade, while expressing whole-hearted sentiments for Philadelphia in a series of X posts Tuesday morning.

He took time to thanks family, teammates — whom he consideres ‘brothers’, coaches, staff, and the city of brotherly love and sisterly affection, for all the love and support he’s recieved over the year during his two stints as an Eagle.

“You’ve been more than a city to me-you’ve been a home.” Gardner-Johnson wrote on social media. “From the moment I stepped onto Lincoln Financial, I knew I’d found a place where passion isn’t just celebrated; it’s demanded. And I gave everything, every snap, every hit, every ounce in my bones.”

Gardner-Johnson had 59 tackles and six interceptions in 2024 and has picked off 13 passes over the past three seasons. He’ll replace Eric Murray, who signed a three-year, $22.5 million deal to join the Jacksonville Jaguars, in the Texans’ secondary.

According to sources, this move won’t save the Eagles much cap room in 2025, but it will free up some money after this season for the team to continue to keep its core together long-term.
