Lamar Odom Doing Much Better, Heading To L.A. For Recovery

Lamar Odom will continue his recovery from what has been reported as a possible overdose in Los Angeles, E! Online is reporting. The 35-year-old former NBA player and reality TV star has been recuperating in a Las Vegas hospital ever since he was found unconscious at a brothel. Now, his aunt, JaNean Mercer, has issued a statement through a representative that Odom is improving more rapidly than expected.

“Lamar has always been blessed with a tenacious, fighting spirit, overcoming insurmountable obstacles to achieve the impossible,” Mercer told Us Magazine. “These past few days have been no different. He is defying the odds in his toughest battle to date with God’s grace. Each day Lamar is getting stronger and reaching significant milestones in his recovery. We are committed to remaining by his side as a family for our champion, who we love immensely. Your continued prayers and well wishes have been the fuel to keep us going, and for that we are eternally grateful.”

Khloe Kardashian has not been seen publicly since Odom was found last Tuesday and she rushed to his bedside, along with sister Kim and Kylie and Kris Jenner. The group has since returned to L.A. minus Khloe, whose remained at the hospital with Odom. Odom’s children, Destiny and Lamar Jr. and their mother Liza Morales, Mercer and Lamar’s father, Joe have also been at the hospital.

E! reports:

E! News has learned that the former NBA star, who has been getting care from doctors at Sunrise Hospital in Nevada for nearly a week now, will be transferred to a Los Angeles hospital to continue his recovery in southern California.

We’re told Odom is expected to leave the hospital in the next day and a half, pending his condition remaining stable. They are in the early stages of working out the logistics of how they may transport him back to L.A. As we previously reported, Lamar’s stature prohibited him from being able to airlifted in a helicopter, so privately chartering a medical flight is one of several options that is being considered at this time.

E! also reports that Odom move, but not stand, that he’s breathing on his own and has passed several important medical tests. It has been reported that he will need months of rehab and it’s unclear if he has retained complete cognitive functions.
